"Akaka Falls"
Hawaii's Akaka Falls is a 422 ft. high waterfalls just north of Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii. Akaka in the Hawaiian language means "A rent , split, or separation." Akaka Falls appears as a big split in the cliff as the water falls into the bowl below. Notice the yellows against blues, violets, and reds that give a thickness to the water, and the strong blue accents in the lush green cliff. Also the smaller falls nearby that almost appear as leaks in the cliff. Local folklore describes a stone here called Pōhaku a Pele that, when struck by a branch oflehua ʻāpane, will call the sky to darken and rain to fall.
