"Battle of the Boar's Head Tavern"
This was one of those really fun classical compositions of a number of different elements, beginning with a battle scene from the Terry Brooks novel, Talismans of Shannara. "Damson Rhee was there, red hair flying out from her cloaked form as she sped toward a gap in the mill wall, calling for Padishar Creel, and Par Ohmsford to follow. Damson took them through a cross alley and into the side door of a tavern. They passed through the dimly lit interior, past men hunched over tables, around kegs, past a serving bar, then out the front door. A shabby slat-board porch with a low hanging roof stretched away to either side. Federation soldiers met them, swords drawn. Damson, Padishar, and Par swept into them and sent them flying. Two went down and didn't move, the rest scattered." I was seeing Shakespeare's Henry IV plays at the time, and this proved too rich for me not to paint the Boar's Head Tavern sign, and the "shabby low hanging roof..." reminded me of van Gogh's "Cafe Terrace at Night" so I threw a rough interpretation of that in for the setting.
