This is a seminal work in my ouvre. It was the last of the best of my paintings of Pete's garden. In it, I finally figure out how to plot a picture out, then carry it through to the end. My entire maanner of painting changed after this. I may have a bit less spontaniety, but, as Delacroix says, "My palette now plays only what I want it to play." In this picture I bridge that gap, and capture the spontaniety of the early works combined with the control of the more mature ones. |
