"Dr. Hunter S. Thompson"
The good doctor Hunter S. Thompson, creator of Gonzo Journalism and one of my very favorite people. Hunter Thompson was one of the leaders of the '60's generation with his reporting, books, and when Bill Murray played him in the movie "Where the Buffalo Roam." In 1985 I read Hunter's book "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." I had hemorrhoids at the time, and when I would laugh it felt like spikes being driven up my back. I couldn't put the book down, though, and probably laughed harder and more often than any other time in my life. Hunter Thompson once almost indvertently blew up Richard Nixon, along with himself on the campaign trail in Hew Hampshire early in 1968, when Thompson was the one lonely reporter covering Nixon.
