"Marie Medici Arrives at Marseilles" (After Rubens)"
The Marie de' Medici Cycle is a series of twenty-four paintings by Peter Paul Rubens commissioned by Marie de' Medici, wife of Henry IV of France, for the Luxembourg Palace in Paris. In Marie's Arrival at Paris Rubens surrounds Marie de' Medici with such wealth that at every moment she was very nearly pushed into the background. Consider where everyone has eyes only for the voluptuous Naiads, to the disadvantage of the queen who is being received with open arms by France.
