"Flying Into Salvador"
Salvador is the capital of the Brazil state of Bahia. It's famous for it's music, food, the Upper and Lower Cities, and it's African Culture. Salvador is the largest African city outside of Africa. It was the first stop of the slave ships in the Western Hemisphere and is rich in African Culture. The architecture is mostly white and pastel buildings along with some of the worst slums I have ever seen. The Sunday I spent there, I saw the Oladun Drummers all in white, street vendors, and random performers everywhere in the Pelourhino. The Mercado Modelo is a huge crafts market with excellent restaurants and views of the harbor. I also went to the oldest slave church in Brazil where the mass was sung with old traditional slave songs. After a thoroughly exhausting day walking around and drinking in the activity and life of the Pelourhino, I ran into a party spilling into a side street, made friends with Elvianne and her friends, and partied into the night.
